July Update (how sad)

Good Grief! Has it really been since April? Well, in my defense we are in the process of moving to another province for my DH's work. The city we are moving to is large and currently facing a housing shortage (unless you are very rich-we are not lol). But, happily we are getting it together after many challenges and I may actually have a chance of checking my e-mail and blogs more than once a week! So hard to believe we are more than half way through July!!! The wool dying was a so-so experience as the roving really wanted to felt in spite of my following directions so I was not totally happy with the result althought the color was dead on! I had ordered some white playsilks to dye and that session went much better. One silk in particular where I got really creative with my mixing colours. I got the most gorgeous shade of green but I know I couldn't duplicate it as it was my last one and after doing 7 different dyelots I was just chucking in a bit of this and a dash of that. I will definately have another go at dying wool this winter. I am in preparing for camping mode right now as we are going on our first camping trip since all the last 2 kids were born. The last time we went camping was 6 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter. It was a horrible trip and I have been reluctant to go again until the kids were all potty trained and able to play in the dirt without eating it! I am excited to go now though as we have a new tent and naturally having the kids be excited always helps!!!

Kool-Aid Dying Wool Roving

So my project today is to dye some lovely wool roving using a combination of Kool-aid, Wilton Food Coloring, and Pas Easter Egg tablets. I will try the microwave method first. I got some wonderful instructions at this site if anyone is interested: http://www.thepiper.com/fiberart/koolaid/basic-howto.html

She also has a detailed color chart!!!

I have started needle felting and, unfortunately, unless I want to order colored wool online - I can only get natural wool roving locally (which is amazing considering the number of sheep around here!).

I will try to post some pictures of the dying later as well as some of the felting I have done. I have gotten so much inspiration from others I hope I can offer some too!
Blessings!

Baby Steps to Bloggging

I am sure there are a thousand clever ways to begin a blog - I am not really sure anyone will ever read this anyhow, so I won't waste my time trying to think one up. Most of my attempts in the last 10 minutes sounded like some sort of strange personals ad which is not my intention. I have decided to try blogging because I love to read blogs and have been a terrible lurker for over 2 years. I have a long list of favorites which I will share if I can figure out how. My intrests are in sustainable living (and the full range of everything in involves ie. thrifting, recycling, gardening, alternate energy etc.), Waldorf education/Home school/unschooling, and sewing/crafting. I am a SAHM to 3 little ones. We have been blessed to live on an island off the coast of BC for the last 8.5 years but will be moving to Edmonton, Alberta this summer for my DH's work. So, many new beginnings to share.
Blessings!
